(FREE), a New York-based not-for-profit agency that supports individuals of all abilities with community living opportunities, employment, day services, clinical, crisis, education, after-school, and other supports. John has over 25 years of strategic human resources and not-for-profit leadership experience working with organizations ranging in size from eight to 2,400 employees. He is versed in all areas of HR, from recruiting to employee relations and benefits/compensation to professional development, and he also enjoys the challenge of supporting organizational change and growth. He has expertise in helping managers improve their supervision and talent management practices. John's non-HR background includes responsibilities in corporate compliance, risk management, and facilities management. John graduated from Fordham University with a BA in Communications and obtained his Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from Baruch College. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute and as a Senior Certified Professional (SCP) through the Society for Human Resource Management.

Merlisa Fairley, BS, PH, MBA

Merlisa is a dedicated professional and author whose passion for providing high quality services has driven her to help many at-risk populations during her career. Merlisa graduated Cum Laude from Monroe College with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health before going on to earn her MBA with a minor in Health Care Management. She has over 12 years of operations and managerial experience in both the private and public sector. She served as an Operations Director for the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and FREE, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in New York that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, and traumatic brain injuries. In her current role, she works as the Employee Relations Business Partner for FREE. In this role, she champions the agency’s professional development efforts, provides guidance and training to supervisors on employee relations matters, and acts as a subject matter expert for FREE’s HR policies and procedures.
